The University of California, Berkeley (also translated as the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of California at Berkeley) is the top public research university in the United States and the world's top engineering and technology institution. The school was founded in 1868 and is one of the earliest universities in California. It is now located in Berkeley near San Francisco. In the 2014 USNEWS comprehensive ranking of American universities, it ranked 20th with Georgetown University and Emory University.
